StoryBundle Home Stretch, Plus Stuff From Other Books

The StoryBundle has been rolling along for two weeks, leaving just one week left! It’s been going along nicely, but I want to make sure that everyone who wants to take advantage of this deal gets their chance, so if you haven’t picked up a bundle, but would like one, now’s the time. And don’t forget that you can gift a bundle, too! Even if you bought one, this is a great way to load up the kindle or nook of that eBook reading friend or relative.

Now onto the news. I actually plotted out the last portion of Lain Origin today. There are about nine scenes/chapters to go, assuming I don’t stray from the plan by too much. Ideally that means that a few good solid days of writing will take me to the end of the rough draft and I can do a read-through and edit. Things are seldom ideal though, and good solid days of writing often come weeks apart, so don’t get too excited just yet. Meanwhile, there has been an impressive amount of motion in the non-Jo-writing-stuff portion of my literary world.

The Book of Deacon Trilogy: Audio Edition Is In Production

Yes, that’s right. When I was asking you good folks about audio book narrators and the like, I wasn’t just being curious, I was laying the groundwork for what might well be the fastest side project so far. A few days after I released Jade: Audio Edition, I received emails from not one but two Audio Book Publishers seeking to produce a Book of Deacon Audio Book. After as near to a bidding war as has ever occurred with my books, a publisher called Tantor Audio secured the rights. Over the last week or so I’ve been in contact with Karyn O’Bryant (the narrator who ended up getting the most votes in the informal survey I ran). She needed some help with the pronunciation of the names, places, and other made up words present in the series, and she has suggested she’ll be in contact again in a few weeks.

Now, I haven’t had a tremendous amount of interaction with the traditional publishing world (and make no mistake, this is actual, factual publishing we’re talking about, albeit not print publishing), but what I’ve encountered has trained me to expect a long, slow process. Imagine my surprise then when I noticed these links go live (1, 2, and 3). Yep! There are pre-order pages! If you take a look, you’ll see that these Audio Books aren’t exactly in the same pricing ballpark as the eBooks, but it is for a good reason. If Jade is any indication, these books will be on the order of 15 hours of audio each!

The preliminary release dates for these things are April 22nd, May 20th, and June 17th of this year respectively. I am beside myself with anticipation.

The Other ‘Other Eight’

My NaNoWriMo novel, which has been set aside until Lain Origin can be finished, is going by the name “The Other Eight” for now, and as I posted not long ago, a reader and cartoonist expressed interest in drawing some of the cast when we were discussing possible commissions a few weeks ago. He started churning out some really top-notch stuff, but one day inspiration struck and he decided to give the whole batch another go. This is the result!

Bottleneck is my new favorite.

Though I got a little attached to the first set, this new one quickly grew on me, and overall I prefer the new over the old (but I’m glad I got both!). As always, my stable of enthusiastic fan artists have been getting in on the act too!

Primadonna, strutting her stuff

If this keeps up, the superhero book is going to have more art before it is published than the other books combined! Oh, and speaking of art.

The Funk Takes Shape

If you are fortunate enough to follow the remarkable plush artisan Bubble Rhapsody’s Facebook page, you will have already seen this, but for the rest of you, look what she did yesterday!

Alas, poor Solby. I knew him, Horatio.

It is actually happening! She’s got to wait for a load of fabric to finish the build, but gosh darn it I might actually get a plush prototype made this time! SWEEEEEEEEET!

That’s as good a not as any to end this post. Thanks for reading!
