For those of you in the United States, Happy Independence Day! For my family in particular, Happy Birthday to my brother Mike! I’ve been maddeningly busy of late, so here’s a batch of updates, most of which happened yesterday!
Neverland’s Library
Just as I was finishing the rough draft on The Rise of the Red Shadow, I was contacted by the minds behind an independently published fantasy anthology called Neverland’s Library. They asked if I was interested in submitting a short story, something less than 10,000 words. Since I’d never really succeeded in writing a story of less than 40,000 words, and I’d just finished writing something over 180,000 words long, I thought a short story would be fun. What I gave them is a silly little tale called The Stump and the Spire. It takes place in the Book of Deacon setting, but doesn’t follow any of the characters we’ve seen so far. If you want to read it, as well as short stories from a great group of other talented authors, then pick up Neverland’s Library when it becomes available.
Back to NYCC
I will once again be attending the New York Comic Con in October. Previously I’ve been showing up as press to do coverage for Brainlazy.com, but this year NYCC decided we aren’t worthy of a press pass, so I executed Plan B and entered a new application, this time as a professional. I was accepted! So I’ll be roaming the conference halls on one or more of the convention days. I won’t have a booth, but if you’re attending, let me know if you want to meet. I might, might, try to rig up some swag to bring with me to hand out. I’d be one of those guys handing out postcards for you to throw away at the next trash can you pass!
Author Interview
I was given the opportunity to submit the answers to some questions for fellow author M. L. LeGette’s blog. I talk a bit about The Rise of the Red Shadow. Speaking of that…
Secret Shenanigans for The Rise of the Red Shadow
Despite the fact that the release of The Rise of the Red Shadow is all the way at the end of the month, I’ve been working with some behind the scenes people to try to do something fancy with this release. Things are nearing readiness. Hopefully I can do a formal announcement soon.
More Fanart!
CatseaTheDevil and ArieieTheWatcher have been busy recently. Here’s some artwork they sent me that I haven’t shown off before.
